Lead Tunnel Engineer — Brenner Programme

About the role

You will lead the geotechnical and structural engineering team on the Brenner Base Tunnel programme, one of the largest infrastructure projects in European history. Reporting to the programme director, you will oversee TBM advance rates, cross-passage design, and lining specification for a 22.4 km twin-bore alpine tunnel beneath the Stubai range. You will coordinate with the client (BBT SE), manage a team of 28 engineers, and ensure compliance with Austrian tunnel safety regulations and Hextal's quality standards.

What we are looking for

  • MSc or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Tunnelling
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in tunnel construction, including at least 3 years in a lead engineering role on TBM-driven tunnels
  • Chartered Engineer status (ICE, Austria, or equivalent European body)
  • Proven experience with NATM and mechanised tunnelling methods in alpine or complex geological conditions
  • Working knowledge of Austrian tunnel safety regulations (RVS 09.01.45) and Eurocode 7
  • Fluent English; German language skills highly desirable
